INT. OFFICE – DAY
A small room filled with cubicles and at the end of the office a place for coffee and tea.
LINDA, an attractive 35 year old woman wearing a dress suit is sitting in her office cubicle typing on her computer. Her phone rings and she answers it.
LINDA
Hello.
LAURA
(VO)
Hi, this is Laura calling from the
Lion’s High School.
Linda agitated.
LINDA
What did Sheryl do this time?
JIMMY, a 35 year old man who stutters is dressed in a suit and is in the cubicle across from her. He leans back in his chair looking over and listens in on the conversation.
LAURA
(VO)
It seems that Sheryl has been sent
to the office again, this time for
shoving a boy’s head into his lunch. Not sure you need this?
LINDA
Okay, I’ll take care of it.
Linda hangs up the phone then gets up. Jimmy quickly leans back forward. She walks past him and over to the table with coffee and pours herself some. Jimmy pulls out a picture of Linda out of his drawer and admires it. He then looks over his cubicle and sees her pouring herself some coffee. He stands up and walks next to her and gets himself some tea. He looks over at her and she looks over at him and says.
LINDA
Hey.
Jimmy surprised smiles at her.
JIMMY
Hi.
Jimmy quickly looses his nerve and quickly walks back to his cubicle. Linda walks back to her cubicle and sits down. She takes a deep breath as she looks down at a picture of Sheryl and shakes her head.
INT. CAR – DAY
The car is parked in front of a school. Linda is waiting patiently when an attractive man walks past. The man looks over at her and smiles and she angrily looks at him. The man slowly looks away then keeps on walking.
Sheryl gets in the car. Linda drives off.
LINDA
So how was your day?
SHERYL
A boy said I was weird so I
slammed his head into his lunch.
LINDA
And what have I told you?
SHERYL
Despise them but don’t hit them.
LINDA
That’s right. It wasn’t until I
was pregnant with you and your
father left me that I learned that,
so consider yourself lucky.
Linda smiles at Sheryl and Sheryl smiles back.
SHERYL
Yes mom, I know.
They pull into a grocery store.
INT. GROCERY STORE – DAY
Ordinary grocery store.
Linda and Sheryl are pushing a buggy full of groceries around, they pass by an isle with a man looking at frozen foods. The door closes and reveals that it is Jimmy, he looks over at them and slowly pushes his buggy in their direction.
The mother sees a lane that is clear but has a man cashier so she goes to a lane that has other people but has a female cashier. Jimmy pushes his buggy over to the magazine section and starts looking at them and gazing over at her. JOHN the manager walks up to Linda who is standing in line.
JOHN
Why hello Linda, nice to see
you’re still shopping here.
LINDA
(Snooty)
Yes well, it’s the only place
in town.
JOHN
(Laughing)
Why yes it is, that is true.
John puts his hand on Linda’s shoulder and Jimmy’s face turns red and angry.
JOHN
So I was thinking if your not
busy Saturday maybe we could go
out for coffee or something?
Jimmy throws his magazine down and walks away from his buggy.
LINDA
(Snooty)
Well as thrilling as coffee
with you sounds.
She removes his hand from her shoulder.
LINDA
I’m afraid I’ll have to pass,
Sheryl’s violin lesson is that
day and I hate leaving her alone.
John nods his head with a smile.
JOHN
Okay, another time then.
John walks off.
LINDA
You see that honey, no violence,
and he still feels just as bad as
if you had hit him.
SHERYL
But this way he’ll just bug you
again next week.
LINDA
Maybe, but he’ll eventually get
the message.
Linda pays for the groceries and ignores John as she walks past him at the door. Jimmy follows behind and gives John a dirty look as he walks past.
Jimmy watches as Linda and Sheryl put their groceries up and drive off. John walks outside and lights up a cigarette, Jimmy looks at him then walks off.
INT. GROCERY STORE – NIGHT
John greets the last employee who is leaving as he locks the doors of the store. John walks towards his office and a figure in the shadows passes by, John stops and looks around then walks to his office door.
INT. JOHN’S OFFICE – NIGHT
John sits down at his desk and starts counting money. The door slowly opens not making a sound. John stops counting the money and opens his desk drawer. He pulls out a bottle of whiskey, pours himself some, then takes a drink and leans back in his chair relaxing. Then a mysterious figure with gloves reaches their hands over his head and with a large piece of wire strangles the man. He kicks his desk struggling and knocks his lamp over. Then we see the shadow of the man being strangled on the wall.
